MLS blocked the transfer of US national team striker Jesus Ferreira to Spartak
The North American Major League Soccer (MLS) has blocked the transfer of US national team and Dallas striker Jesus Ferreira to Spartak. The Athletic reports this.
According to the source, Dallas received an offer of $13 million from the Moscow team, and Ferreira was negotiating a personal contract with the red-and-whites. After this, the league informed the parties that the deal would not be completed due to the risks that American commercial entities might face if they did business with Russian companies.
Ferreira has been with Dallas since 2017 and has scored 50 goals in 157 appearances across all competitions. His contract with the club runs until the end of 2025. The forward played 23 matches for the US national team and scored 23 goals.
After the first part of the season, Spartak is in fifth place in the Russian Championship standings with 30 points. The tournament will resume after the winter break on March 3.
