There was no shortage of emotions in the Wednesday meeting between Silesia from Wroc³aw and Partizan Belgrade. After a dramatic ending, the Polish team lost 73:75 away, although a few minutes before the end of the competition they were leading with five points. The favorites, however, managed to turn the tide of the game, although it seems that with the great help of the judges.
The controversy began in the penultimate action, when Karolak passed directly to his rivals. Experts checked whether Partizan’s basketball players had made the mistake of returning the ball to their own half of the court. According to the judges, the rivals of Silesia did not take possession of the ball, and a moment later they took the lead 74:73.
Great controversy at the end of the match of Śląsk Wrocław
It was then that the meeting became the most controversial. Łukasz Kolendra jumped up under the basket in action, but he collided with Zac LeDay in the air. And although the event was evident, the referees did not blow the whistle, and after analyzing the video, they decided to award the ball to the hosts – reported the match on the portal.
The heads of EuroCup did not agree with this interpretation. – The referees estimated that the ball went out of the court awarding the ball to Partiz. Contact with LeDay came while he was on the defensive shelf, while Kolenda was in the air and in the act of shooting. Therefore, the referees should whistle a foul in defense and award Sląski two free throws – they wrote in the justification.
However, this does not change much in the situation of Śląsk Wrocław. The Polish team won only one match in seven games. If he wants to advance to the play-offs, he cannot afford to lose again. The eight best teams from both 10-team groups will be promoted.
