FHR General Director Kurbatov announced the reluctance of players to switch to Russian sticks
General Director of the Russian Hockey Federation (RFH) Dmitry Kurbatov assessed the effectiveness of the import substitution program in his sport and stated the reluctance of players to switch to Russian-made sticks. The words of the functionary are reported by Match TV.
According to him, sticks in Russia are produced only by the Zaryad company, which is headed by former national team player Danis Zaripov. “About 2 percent of hockey players play it; Zaryad sticks are used in children’s schools. But 98 percent of players still use foreign clubs, not wanting to switch to a domestic manufacturer,” said Kurbatov.
Earlier, the general director of the FHR named the required number of new skating rinks to catch up with the United States in this indicator. According to him, about 400 skating rinks need to be built.
In February 2022, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) suspended the Russian national team from participating in competitions under its auspices. Russia was also deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Cup and the World Youth Championship.
