UEFA head Čeferin announced his desire to lift the suspension from Russian youth teams

President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksandar Čeferin spoke about the exclusion of Russians from international tournaments. His words are quoted by The Telegraph.

He promised not to allow the country’s national team and clubs until the end of the SVO in Ukraine, but said that he would like to lift sanctions from youth teams. “There is no need to punish children for something that is not their fault,” said the head of UEFA.

Last September, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youths to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. After this, some countries, including Ukraine and England, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams. The decision on admission was never made.

On February 28, 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments. Teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team has lost the opportunity to fight for access to the finals of the World and European Championships.
