Vladimir Putin said that Brazilian football player Pele treated Russia well
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the attitude of Brazilian football player Pele towards the country. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, Pele treated Russia well. “I knew him. He was very kind, such a pleasant person,” Putin added.
In June 2022, Pele turned to Putin because of a special operation in Ukraine. The ex-footballer recalled his meeting with the Russian leader in 2017 and emphasized that he could not imagine that the world would be as divided as it is today. “I hope we can build a better world together,” the Brazilian said.
Pele passed away on December 29, 2022 at the age of 82 after organ failure. The Brazilian is a three-time world football champion. In 1999, the International Olympic Committee recognized the forward as Athlete of the Century.
