Ecuador defeated Colombia (3-0) on Saturday at the start of the South American U-23 Olympic qualifiers, a defeat that was strongly criticized by the coffee house.

Gabriel Meluk, in his newspaper column Time from Bogotá, makes a lapidary analysis of the team coached by coach Héctor Cárdenas.

“It is worrying that, without greater creativity and mobility, the coach was more concerned about the guys putting together a tactical figure (…). An even, flat team, without variants and without talent and scorers,” he says.

“Well, last Saturday this Cárdenas U-23 team was crushed despite having many players to avoid defeat against Ecuador. It was played (I apologize for the exaggeration!) as well as the U-17 and U-20 of Cárdenas himself,” added part of the column published in the coffee newspaper.

He also described his country’s team as a “flat” team with “little technical direction”, which caused “neither cold nor heat”.

“This flat team, without much genius, with individual sparks, self-willed and with little technical direction, has the same flat game that caused neither cold nor heat in South America. There is no need to make drama about the defeat (…), but there was a lack of will and spark among the technical guys. “What a burden!” he pointed out.

“All those quotes I wrote don’t apply to the under-23 team that was thrashed 3-0 by Ecuador last Saturday in the opening of the Pre-Olympic Games, although they all fit their poor shoes,” he added.

And Meluk continued: “How badly this team is playing. It’s bubble gum without the candy. It’s a team without surprises, it’s very stagnant.” (D)
