O Barcelona is close to completing the contract renewal of young Pedri. According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, the 18-year-old midfielder must sign a new contract by 2026 with a 1 billion euros (BRL 6.4 billion) fine.
The Spanish daily reported information from journalist Fabrizio Romano. According to him, the new contract should be made official by Friday. The athlete’s current termination clause is 400 million euros (BRL 2.5 billion).
The high value is, in a way, connected with the transfer of Neymar, to the PSG, in 2017. At the time, the French club decided to pay the Brazilian’s 222 million euros (R$1.42 billion currently) termination fine – something unthinkable until then.
To be on the safe side and avoid another “Neymar case”, Barça renewed with the main players and stipulated very high fines. Antoine Griezmann, for example, had a clause of 800 million euros (BRL 5.1 billion).
Pedri arrived at Barcelona in 2020 and has since played 56 games, scoring four goals and six assists. He became a key part of Ronald Koeman’s team and gained prominence. This season, he took the field only four times, having injured his thigh.
