Tarpishchev urged not to pay attention to the refusal of Ukrainian women to shake hands with Russian women
The President of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpishchev, appreciated the refusal of Ukrainian women to shake hands with Russian women after matches. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
Tarpischev urged not to pay attention to this. “Because it starts to get blown out of proportion, a million opinions appear. I believe that sport is outside of politics, it must adhere to certain standards of behavior that should exist in all sports,” he said.
On January 20, Ukrainian Elizaveta Kotlyar and Russian Vlada Mincheva shook hands after a match at the junior Australian Open. The Ukrainian Tennis Federation called the incident a mistake. The tennis player’s father, Konstantin Kotlyar, explained that his daughter could not cope with her emotions.
Ukrainian tennis players usually do not shake hands with Russians and Belarusians and do not take joint photos after matches. In response to this, spectators sometimes boo the athletes.
