Baskonia has obtained a prestigious victorythis Thursday, in Belgrade, against Red Star, 90-91, in the twenty-second day of the Euroleague of the 2023-24 season. The key to Dusko Ivanovic’s team’s victory was the excellent reaction shown in the third quarter. Markus Howard, with 32 points, has led Baskonia in attack, which is provisionally placed, in seventh position in the Euroleague, with 12 games won in 22 days.
A fundamental offensive rebound from Chima Moneke, who has added twelve in total, and two free throws from Vanja Marinkovic, author of five triples, have ensured Baskonia’s victory in a match that had become significantly complicated in the first half, but which changed the script after the break, thanks to the success of Markus Howard, who scored seven triples.
Baskonia has gained 12 points after coming back as many, but Red Star has been proud, under the leadership of Yago Dos Santos, who has reached his personal record in the Euroleague, with 26 points.
The outside shot marked the start of the match, which began with Red Star very successful. Baskonia entered fully into the scoring battle in the second quarter, but conceded the outside shot of its rival, which kept the lead at around ten points, despite the fact that Nikos Rogkavopoulos was very successful at the beginning.
Five points from Rokas Giedraitis have stretched a difference that Baskonia has contained with three-pointers. After half-time at 52-43, nine consecutive points from Markus Howard and several well-defended plays by Dusko Ivanovic’s men tied the match (54-54), and, thanks in large part to Howard, Baskonia was placed ahead, 62-69 with the last quarter remaining, in which Yago Dos Santos and Rokas Giedraitis have left the match at 83-84 with less than two minutes remaining.
In the decisive moment, two free throws by Vanja Marinkovic, after a vital offensive rebound by Chima Moneke, closed the game for Baskonia, 90-91.
