Kurbanov apologized to the team and fans. “Of course, what happened is not worthy behavior, and the consequences have already served as a lesson for me. I accept full responsibility for my actions,” he said, adding that he is now focused on getting back to playing.
Earlier on January 18, it became known that Kurbanov was disqualified for three months for violating anti-doping rules. A prohibited substance of class S6a (cocaine) was found in his sample.
Kurbanov suspended his career on October 27, 2023. CSKA noted that he made this decision for personal reasons.
37-year-old Kurbanov, together with the army team, won the Euroleague three times. He also played for the Russian national team.
