The board of directors of Club Sport Emelec, headed by José Pileggi Véliza, focused on strengthening the team in the best way, and one of the areas in which he incorporated the most players was the midfield.

El Bombillo tried to sign a contract with players who have a long professional career and, in addition, experience in important teams in South America, such as the case of Marcelo Meli, who was in Boca Juniors.

He is not withdrawing from the transfer market: Emelec is looking for two new reinforcements for 2024.

The midfielder has been coming to electric teams for three seasons and joined the training sessions. In addition, the Argentine will have to adapt to Guayaquil, a place where, in his opinion, it is “very humid”.

“I am very happy, with a great group and a very approachable coaching staff. I’m also adjusting a bit to the humidity and to what the group is like,” said Meli at a press conference in Los Samanes this morning.

Regarding his relationship with Hernán Torres, Emelec’s strategist, the midfielder said: “I still haven’t spoken much with the coaching staff, we are preparing more physically than tactically.”

Although he has only been in Ecuador for a few days, Meli is aware of the big demands the team has this year, where they will only play in a local tournament.

“Emelec is pushing us to be champions because it’s a big club, we have to be at the top of the championship and obviously we have to qualify for the cups to come,” said the midfielder. (D)
