“Siberia” was deprived of four points for violating the limit on foreign players in the KHL
The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) club Sibir was awarded four technical defeats for violating the limit on foreign players. This was reported on the league website.
The KHL stated that four foreign players played in meetings with Omsk Avangard, Barys from Astana (twice) and Ekaterinburg Avtomobilist: Andy Andreoff, Taylor Beck, Fedor Gordeev and Trevor Murphy. In addition, the team received a monetary fine.
Thus, Siberia was deprived of four points and dropped to ninth place in the Eastern Conference, gaining 51 points from 52 matches. Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik rose to eighth place in the East with the same number of points, but ahead of Sibir in additional indicators. Magnitogorsk Metallurg is in the lead with 74 points.
A new limit was introduced in the KHL this season. A team’s roster for a match can include a maximum of three foreign players.
