The footballer who refused to play for Russia moved to a European club

Nizhny Novgorod footballer Edgar Sevikyan moved to the Hungarian Ferencvarosi

Midfielder of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Nizhny Novgorod club Edgar Sevikyan moved to the Hungarian Ferencvaros. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Russian club.

The terms of the 22-year-old football player’s agreement with the European club have not been specified. The transfer was previously announced by the general director of the Nizhny Novgorod team, David Melik-Guseinov. He emphasized that the player expressed an insistent desire to prove himself in another club.

On August 31, 2023, Sevikyan, summoned to the September training camp of the Russian national team, announced his refusal of the invitation due to his decision to play for Armenia. He was called up to the Armenian national team training camp later in September.

Sevikyan is a graduate of Lokomotiv Moscow. He played for Russian youth teams of almost all ages.
