Euroleague representative Sasic said he wants to return clubs from Russia to the tournament
Executive Director of the Euroleague Basketball Coaches Council Goran Sasic spoke about the exclusion of Russian clubs from the tournament. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
Šašić said that he would like to return Russian teams to competitions as soon as possible. “Before the sanctions, three Russian clubs participated in this tournament. Don’t forget how much these teams have lost due to this whole situation. It is necessary to compensate for their losses and give the opportunity to exactly three clubs from Russia to participate in the tournament,” he noted.
On February 28, 2022, the Euroleague decided to temporarily suspend Russian clubs from the tournament. After this, CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan and Zenit St. Petersburg were disqualified and their results were annulled.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russian teams on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
