A major fire occurred at the Avangard plant in the city of Shakhty, Rostov region.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Rostov Region, the fire started in a workshop for the production of fillings for mattresses and pillows. The area of the fire in the village of Gidroprivod was initially 200 square meters. m. To date, the fire has been localized to an area of 360 square meters. m.
At least two victims are known to have been injured as a result of the incident. Social media users are sharing photos of black smoke rising from the plant.
Governor of the Rostov region Vasily Golubev, commenting on the emergency at the plant in Shakhty, said that information about the explosion and subsequent fire in the factory building of Shakhtinsky Polyester Plant LLC was received at 11:30.
According to him, information that the cause of the fire at the plant in Shakhty could have been a drone has not been confirmed. The air defense was not working at that time, Golubev noted, citing the military. “Seven units of special equipment, vehicles from energy and gas services, as well as emergency medical services were brought in,” the head of the region wrote in his Telegram channel.
The Shakhty polyester plant was opened in June 2023 on the territory of the Avangard company. The total investment in creating the enterprise exceeded 5 billion rubles.
