Two Russian teams set a KHL record

Torpedo and Metallurg set a KHL record for goals in one period

Nizhny Novgorod “Torpedo” defeated Magnitogorsk “Metallurg” in the regular championship match of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Results are available on the league website.

The clubs set a KHL record for scoring in one period, scoring nine goals against each other in 12 minutes 46 seconds. The meeting took place in Nizhny Novgorod and ended with a score of 7:4 in favor of the hosts. Andrei Belevich scored a double for the winners; Maxim Letunov, Bogdan Konyushkov, Igor Larionov, Bobby Lynch and Denis Yan also scored.

Thus, Torpedo is in fifth place in the KHL Eastern Conference standings, having scored 63 points in 51 matches. Metallurg leads with 74 points from 53 matches.

The current winner of the Gagarin Cup is Moscow CSKA. In the 2022/2023 season, the team won the trophy for the third time. The capital club defeated Ak Bars in a series of up to four wins with a score of 4:3. Previously, the army team won the Russian Championship in the 2018/2019 and 2021/2022 seasons.
