Milk can be harmful to health in some cases. General practitioner Igor Alentov warned about this, the Izvestia newspaper writes.
The doctor urged people to be especially careful with farm milk, which many believe is healthier than factory milk. “Farm milk is more dangerous in terms of infection. In farm conditions, the technology for processing the product may not be consistent,” the doctor noted.
He added that there is also a chance of contracting tick-borne encephalitis or borreliosis if the cow is bitten by ticks. There is also a possibility of pyogenic flora in such milk if the animal had mastitis – inflammation of the udder. “This can lead to various inflammatory infectious diseases,” Alentov explained.
The doctor admitted that in general, milk is a healthy drink containing vitamins B12, D, A, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, rich in protein. However, this product should not be abused by those diagnosed with lactase deficiency, the doctor explained, noting that such people in their bodies do not have enough enzymes that can break down lactose – milk sugar.
According to the doctor’s calculations, the norm for milk consumption for an adult is two to three glasses a day, for children from one to three years old – one glass, after three years – up to two.
