Russian Colorado Avalanche forward Valery Nichushkin made a statement about his participation in the National Hockey League (NHL) player assistance program. His words are quoted on the team’s social media account. X (formerly Twitter).
“My task is to solve my problems and prevent any negative consequences once and for all. I want to thank my wife, family, friends, organization and all the fans for their understanding and support,” the Russian noted. He also promised to do everything to return to the team as quickly as possible.
Nichushkin’s participation in the program became known on January 15. The program helps players treat alcohol or drug addiction. In addition, hockey players can use it to cope with psychological problems.
28-year-old Nichushkin played 40 matches in the NHL regular season this season. He scored 22 goals and 20 assists.
