Spartak coach Zhamnov said that the club is not losing because of Kovalchuk
The head coach of Spartak Moscow, Alexei Zhamnov, in an interview with TASS, spoke about the version according to which the team’s series of defeats in the regular season of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) is connected with the arrival of forward Ilya Kovalchuk.
“To say that Kovalchuk came and the team began to collapse is insanity. We always have “well-wishers,” so I treat this normally, you can write anything,” Zhamnov said. He added that getting the situation back on track is the job of the coaching staff.
Kovalchuk made his debut for Spartak on December 24. Since then, the red-whites have suffered seven defeats in nine matches.
The 40-year-old forward, who resumed his career, took part in seven matches this season. He has three goals and one assist.
