Valentin Piseev said that the European Championship without Russians turned out to be interesting
Honorary President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Valentin Piseev appreciated the 2024 European Championships, in which Russian athletes did not take part. His words are quoted by Match TV.
According to him, the tournament turned out to be interesting, but the level would not be high. “We naturally stand higher. Plus, I got the impression that there is still a biased attitude towards Russian athletes who compete for other teams,” Piseev noted.
The tournament took place from January 10 to 14 in Kaunas. Representing Georgia, former Russian figure skater Anastasia Gubanova won silver in women’s singles skating. Second place in pair skating was taken by ex-Russian Anastasia Metelkina, who, together with Luka Berulava, also competes for Georgia.
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters do not take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments.
