Tarasova reported that the level of European pair skating is lower than Russian
Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova compared the level of European pair skating with the Russian one. Her words are quoted by Sport Express.
According to her, foreign skaters are weaker than domestic ones. “We already know that we are the best in Europe. That’s not news. I think they are much inferior to us. But in general, they have caught up,” Tarasova noted.
Earlier, the pairs tournament ended at the 2024 European Figure Skating Championships. The winners of the tournament, Italians Lucrezia Beccari and Matteo Guarise, scored 199.19 points based on the sum of two skates. Alena Kostornaya and Georgy Kunitsa, who took ninth place at the last Russian Championship, scored 200.15 points.
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments.
