RPL leader reproached for broken promises

The agent of midfielder Akhmetov Gegechkori said that Krasnodar did not keep its promise

Irakli Gegechkori, the agent of Russian midfielder Ilzat Akhmetov, spoke about the reasons for the player’s transfer from Krasnodar to Zenit. His words are quoted by “Championship”.

Gegechkori reproached Krasnodar, the leader of the Russian Premier League (RPL), for broken promises. “We were promised that Akhmetov would be used either in the “eight” position or in the “ten” position. But they didn’t keep their promises there – he didn’t play a single match in these two positions,” he explained.

The agent added that if desired, the team could keep the midfielder. “But Krasnodar’s assessment of Ilzat did not meet our expectations,” Gegechkori concluded.

Zenit announced Akhmetov’s transfer on January 9. The contract with the 26-year-old midfielder runs until the end of the 2025/2026 season with an option to extend for another season. This season, the player played 21 matches in all competitions, scored three goals and made two assists.

After 18 matches, Krasnodar leads the Russian Championship with 38 points. Zenit is second and two points behind. The RPL will resume after a break on March 3.
