Russian golfer Natalia Guseva said that she was provided with security in the United States. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Guseva drew attention to the fact that she was performing under a neutral flag and without an anthem. “I am very grateful that they immediately assigned me security. But to a greater extent, you are treated as an athlete, and not as an enemy,” said the golfer. She emphasized that she receives critical comments, but does not pay attention to them.
On December 7, 2023, Guseva became the first Russian woman member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour. She thanked her coach and family members who were with her during the most difficult times.
On May 6, the International Golf Federation allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. The IGF said that Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the competition as individual athletes – without any associations with Russia or Belarus and their national federation.
