Giorgobiani said that Diana Davis’s transition to the Georgian national team was not easy
President of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation Mariam Giorgobiani spoke about the transfer of the former Russian dance couple Diana Davis – Gleb Smolkin to the national team of the country. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to her, the skaters have strengthened the Georgian team. “How was the transition? In short, it’s not easy. For some reason, nothing ever just happens in the Georgian national team, this is our fate. Thank God that the result in this case was achieved,” noted Giorgobiani.
Davis, the daughter of the honored coach of Russia Eteri Tutberidze, and Smolkin, the son of actor Boris Smolkin, have been representing Georgia since the 2023/2024 season. The change of citizenship was approved by the executive committee of the Russian Figure Skating Federation on May 5 last year.
Davis and Smolkin made their debuts in the senior Russian national team in the 2021/2022 season. They finished eighth at the European Championships and took 14th place at the Beijing Olympics. Athletes living in the USA missed the 2022/2023 season.
