Khabibulin, who resumed his career, said that this was not intended for the long term
Olympic hockey champion and goalkeeper coach of Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo Nikolai Khabibulin spoke about the decision to resume his career. The words of the 50-year-old hockey player are quoted by TASS.
According to the athlete, at first the conversations about returning to the ice were a joke, but then they grew into something more real. “We are talking more about some kind of one-time event. It is clear that this is not designed for any long-term perspective,” Khabibulin noted.
The Russian added that he has not yet been on the ice and is trying to get in shape in the gym. “I haven’t played for a long time, and when you watch the match from the side, you can see everything, everything can be read. But I need to get used to the speed, and in general, will I be able to get used to them,” the goalkeeper noted.
On December 27, it became known that Khabibulin would start playing for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. The contract with the 50-year-old goalkeeper runs until the end of the season.
Khabibulin played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1994 to 2014. In 2004, he won the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The goalkeeper is also the 1992 Olympic champion.
