ISU replaced ex-Russian Gubanova in representing the current European champions
The International Skating Union (ISU) ignored former Russian Anastasia Gubanova in representing the reigning European champions in a post on the social network X.
On the eve of the European Championships, the ISU posted photos of the current tournament winners in each discipline. However, in women’s single skating, the organization replaced Gubanova, who has been competing for Georgia since 2021, with the Belgian Luna Hendricks, who won silver in 2023.
The 2024 European Championship will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania, from January 10 to 14. The Russians miss the competition due to sanctions from the ISU.
In the summer of 2022, the ISU published a post on social networks on the occasion of International Olympic Day. All champions of the 2022 Games in Beijing were present in the photo gallery, but Russian Anna Shcherbakova was replaced by bronze winner Japanese Kaori Sakamoto. The Russian woman responded to the incident with the phrase “I sincerely believe that everyone is equal in sports.”
