The era of the Paz family in the Liga de Quito has come to an end. The General Assembly of members voted to terminate the 27-year administration of the Special Commission for Football.
In the vote, 145 members of the League (Q) were in favor of leaving the Commission, 24 were against, and 15 abstained. There will now be a transition period for Paza to provide information about his period to Isaac Álvarez, president of the U.
The Paz family left a $30 million debt in the Liga de Quito
The group led by Esteban Paz was mainly in charge of recruiting players and the coaching staff of the first team. During that time he won five international titles and 12 local titles achieved with Rodrigo Paz (who died in 2021) and his son Esteban at the helm.
Does he keep his word? ‘Luis Zubeldía does not want to work for now,’ says his employer
Its main successes were winning the Copa Libertadores (2008), the first team and so far the only one in Ecuador to achieve this; South American in 2009 and 2023; and the South American Cup Winners’ Cup in 2009 and 2010.
Esteban Paz: I knew it wouldn’t last forever, but they’re pulling me out of the Quito league
At the end of the meeting, Paz commented: “They did not allow the Football Commission to present itself. As the president of the Commission, I was not allowed to analyze the balance sheet or see the financial analysis. “Everything that happened at this assembly was very ambiguous.”
Esteban Paz’s successful cycle in the Quito league ends on January 31, reveals Isaac Álvarez, head of the university team
“The functioning of the Football Commission ends on January 31, but from then on, if there is no orderly transition, it will hurt the team,” said the businessman from Quito, who added: “I have no contact with Isaac Álvarez (who took over the presidency in 2023), the relationship didn’t work.”
Regarding the accident suffered by Diego Castro, the manager of the Commission, Paz said: “I am leaving with more uncertainty than I entered, and even worse that Diego was not allowed to submit a report with all the details of the football team.”
And Castro only pointed out in a short intervention: “The boy had a provision on the registration that he could not enter.” (D)
