Dominik Hasek: no Russian can participate in international tournaments
Olympic champion, two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek on social networks X addressed Russian hockey players and officials.
The former athlete said that not a single domestic athlete can participate in international tournaments due to the events in Ukraine. “We are talking about lives,” Hasek wrote.
Hasek is known for criticizing Russian athletes. He called for Russians to be banned from all international tournaments. In particular, the Czech proposed suspending the contracts of Russian players in the National Hockey League, and later called on the league leaders to resign because of their position on Russia.
At the end of last year, Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in neutral status. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be able to take part in the tournament.
