Russian hockey player Dmitry Gorbunov died after a planned operation at 38 years old. This is reported by E1.RU.
The cause of the athlete’s death was sepsis caused by bacteria and hypoxic brain damage. His mother said that in 2018, her son broke his collarbone twice and lived with a metal plate in the bone, but delayed surgery to remove it for four years. Gorbunov decided to do it in October 2023, but it was unsuccessful.
The hockey player fell into a coma and died two weeks after the operation. Law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case under the article on causing death by negligence due to improper performance by a person of his professional duties.
Gorbunov played in the ORGMASTER amateur league for the Orgmaster team.
