Tennis player from the Russian Federation Potapova withdrew from the tournament before the match with Ukrainian Tsurenko
Russian Anastasia Potapova withdrew from the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournament in Adelaide, Australia. She announced this on her Instagram (social network banned in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned).
The athlete noted that she would miss the competition due to an injury received at the previous tournament. Potapova added that she will prepare for the Australian Open.
In the 1/16 finals of the tournament in Adelaide, Potapova was supposed to meet with Ukrainian Lesya Tsurenko. The tennis player ranks 28th in the WTA rankings. Her opponent is in 32nd place.
Previously, Tsurenko felt that Russians should boycott the 2024 Games in Paris as a sign of solidarity with their compatriots who were not admitted. “I support that Ukraine will send the strongest team in history to the Olympics, and Russians and Belarusians will watch the competition on TV,” she noted.
