Russian world champion talks about lack of communication with Ukrainian women

Russian chess player Anastasia Bodnaruk said that she does not communicate with Ukrainians

Russian world rapid champion Anastasia Bodnaruk talks about the lack of communication with Ukrainian chess players. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“We don’t communicate with Ukrainian chess players, but this doesn’t affect me, an experienced fighter,” Bodnaruk said. The Russian woman added that the lack of opportunity to compete in tournaments under the Russian flag does not affect her psychological state.

Bodnaruk won the World Rapid Championship, which took place in Samarkand at the end of December 2023. In the final, the Russian woman defeated Indian representative Humpy Koneru in a tiebreaker with a score of 2.5 – 1.5. During the tournament, Bodnaruk played a game with three-time world champion in rapid chess, Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk. After the match, the athletes did not shake hands.

The International Chess Federation allows Russian and Belarusian chess players to compete in international tournaments under the organization’s flag. The admission applies to those already competing in neutral status and will last until January 1, 2025.
