The NHL selected three Russians for the All-Star Game – Shesterkin, Kucherov and Kaprizov
Russian Washington forward Alexander Ovechkin was not included in the list of players who were selected by the National Hockey League (NHL) to participate in the 2024 All-Star Game. This became known from a press release on the official NHL website.
At the first stage, the league selected one player from each club. Washington chose forward Tom Wilson instead of Ovechkin. The Russian can still become a participant in the All-Star Game if he gets into the list of 12 hockey players who will be chosen based on the results of fan voting.
So far, three Russian players have taken part in the NHL’s star weekend – New York Rangers goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin, Tampa Bay forward Nikita Kucherov and Minnesota forward Kirill Kaprizov.
The 2024 NHL All-Star Game will take place in Toronto from February 1 to 3. This season, the team selection process for the three-on-three tournament has changed, with a draft in which team captains from four divisions will select players along with celebrities. The concept of the master show has also been changed – 12 hockey players will compete for one million dollars in competitions using the all-around system.
On January 4, Ovechkin scored an assist in the NHL match against New Jersey, but this did not help Washington win. The capital club lost with a score of 3:6.
The Russian forward continues his pursuit of the NHL sniper record, which belongs to Canadian Wayne Gretzky. The Russian has 830 goals scored, 64 goals behind Gretzky.
