Dominik Hasek said he was surprised by Khabibulin’s decision to resume his career
Olympic champion, two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek responded to the resumption of his career by 50-year-old Russian hockey player Nikolai Khabibulin. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The former athlete said that he was surprised by Khabibulin’s decision. “I have my fingers crossed for him to make a successful return to professional ice at home. Although I know that it will not be easy at his age,” he added.
On December 27, it became known that Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo signed a contract with Khabibulin. The agreement with the 50-year-old goalkeeper runs until the end of the season.
Khabibulin played his last professional game in the 2013/2014 season with the Chicago Blackhawks. He also played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes, Winnipeg Jets and Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2004. In Russia and the USSR, he played for CSKA and Ak Bars Kazan.
