Ewa Buga³a was the face of TVP Info. Now she has disappeared, and on the Internet I found a “chronicle of her work”

The national media employee was one of the most exposed stars of TVP Info. Although she started working at Telewizja Polska in 2012, and surprisingly even worked at TVN earlier, her career became public only in 2016, when the so-called good change. Then Marzena Paczuska-Tętnik became the head of “Wiadomości”, and she appointed Bugała as the daily’s reporter.

Previously, she served as a researcher and assistant, including: Justyna Dobrosz-Oracz, who created materials for “Wiadomości” until 2015. However, the then young employee decided to follow a different path, and the results of her independent work do not indicate that she took to heart the lessons that could have been given to her by one of the leading parliamentary reporters, who has been cooperating with “Gazeta Wyborcza” since 2016.

Bugała worked at “Wiadomości” until 2020, and since then we could only watch her on TVP Info, where she has hosted various journalistic programs over recent years. These included: “It’s impossible to hide”, “It’s passed 8”, “It’s passed 9”, “It’s passed 20” and “Plan of the day”. The first one was the most controversial, but it disappeared in June this year. Each episode featured a different theme, and the host was repeatedly accused of bias and attacking opponents of the United Right.

It was similar in other programs in which politicians of various stripes were guests, but representatives of the then ruling party could always count on special treatment. We described one of such situations a few months ago, when . The TVP Info employee started to torpedo her with further questions, accused her of lying and allowed her to be attacked by a PiS MP.

There were many such bizarre situations on public television – which all Polish citizens pay for. We have become quite accustomed to this over the last eight years. Today, TVP Info is to return in a new version, and according to reports, the new president of Telewizja Polska, Tomasz Sygut, wrote in e-mails to the station’s new team: “We need to restore credibility.”

Moreover, old employees who were not the faces of propaganda are to keep their jobs at the station. This means that Ewa Bugała will certainly no longer appear on the public broadcaster’s air. But all those who would like to recall her materials or programs that she co-hosted have the opportunity to do so.

I came across a channel on YouTube titled: “”. The account was created in 2009, and on the channel we can find 228 recordings, but only six of them do not concern a former employee of the so-called national media. The vast majority of them are archival recordings featuring Ewa Bugała, and the graphics presenting the films bear the inscription “Bugalenie z… (recording date)”. In the channel description we can find the definition of this neologism:

First, let me explain what ‘bugalenie’ means. This word describes a certain type of PiS propaganda, as intelligent as Roch Kowalski’s horse, as subtle as the work of a pile driver driving piles into wet ground, saturated with truth like the words of Antoni Macierewicz. The name comes from the surname of the leading representative of the genre – editor Ewa Bugała from ‘Wiadomości’ on TVP.

These words come from an article critical of a former TVP employee entitled . This makes us think that Bugała herself is not behind the online archive, because she certainly would not approach her work this way. Moreover, the mysterious creator of the channel further explains why he undertook this task:

Why Ewa Bugała? Because he is an extraordinary, even legendary character from Jacek Kurski’s TVP. It was Bugała who showed how to ‘pull three triggers’, i.e. how to make strong propaganda, which was liked by a certain viewer from Żoliborz.

Interestingly, the content on the channel is successively updated. The last movie titled “Ewa Bugała: ‘A PLN 2 billion scam during the PO-PSL government’ It cannot be hidden, 12/09/2017” appeared only a few hours ago. The number of viewers and subscribers is not staggering, but I hope that the account owner will continue to fill it with new-old materials.

Why? In memory of posterity. So that everyone remembers how state television operated in the years 2016-2023, which, according to . According to Jacek Kurski and the United Right government, it was completely different, which can be seen even in the bar in the video attached at the top. However, this was just an illusion of reality.

Moreover, it seems to me that the current government, apart from creating a new formula of public media, will not want to leave the creators of various propaganda materials without consequences. Those who will deal with it will certainly have access to the archive, but I believe that all citizens should have access to it online. After all, we’ve all been paying for this for eight years.
