The State Duma explained the refusal to dismiss Bida from the Russian Guard by presidential decree

State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein responded to Elena Grishina, the mother of Russian fencer Sergei Bida, who left for the United States, in his Telegram channel, who complained about the refusal to dismiss her son from the Russian Guard.

He called the claims of the athlete’s relative unfounded. “In accordance with the presidential decree, all dismissals of military personnel are suspended for the period of military military training,” Khinshtein explained.

On December 28, Grishina said that Bida tried several times to resign from the Russian Guard, but was refused. She also emphasized that the fencer had permission to leave Russia.

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has put Bidou and his wife, fencer Violetta Bidou, on the wanted list, who left for the United States. They are defendants under Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service”). Athletes face up to ten years in prison.
