Two-time Olympic champion in swimming Evgeny Rylov made a choice between participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and supporting Vladimir Putin in the presidential elections. His words are quoted by TASS.
According to the athlete, participation in the election campaign of the current president is more important to him. “This is a new experience for me, communication with many new people, new information, it helps me develop. I have never denied that I support the president and his work, so I am very glad that I was invited,” said Rylov.
The athlete, who was previously among Putin’s trusted representatives in the upcoming presidential elections, once again noted that he would miss the 2024 Games. “But we will have our own competitions next year, and I really want to perform well there,” the swimmer emphasized.
On December 17, Rylov announced his refusal to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. He criticized the conditions put forward by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Russians. “I don’t follow the lead of the IOC, I am for clean sport. “I made an informed decision: I refuse to go to the Olympic Games until all this nonsense settles to the bottom and our water becomes clean again,” he said.
