Fetisov: Ovechkin does not need to leave Washington to chase Gretzky’s record
Two-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov assessed the need to exchange Russian striker Alexander Ovechkin from the Washington Capitals. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
Fetisov said that Ovechkin does not need to leave Washington to chase Wayne Gretzky’s record. “Sasha will find her game, I’m sure of it. Therefore, the less we talk about this topic, the faster he will return to normal. Constantly reading about what the team will find and will not find is an additional psychological burden,” he noted.
On December 22, Ovechkin scored his 828th goal in the regular championships of the National Hockey League (NHL) and closed the gap with Gretzky, who leads in this indicator. The retired Canadian has 894 goals to his name.
Previously, Ovechkin could not score a goal for 14 matches. This series became a personal anti-record for the Washington captain.
