UFC champion Makhachev responds to Gaethje’s challenge: I can do more than kicks
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Islam Makhachev on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) responded to the challenge of American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Justin Gaethje.
The athlete called on his opponent to be careful. “I can do more than kicks,” Makhachev wrote.
Earlier on December 27, Geydzhi challenged Makhachev to a duel and promised to blow his head off. He asked UFC head Dana White to organize the fight.
Among the contenders for a fight with the 32-year-old Russian fighter, in addition to Gaethje, is the Brazilian Charles Oliveira. He faced Makhachev in October 2022 in a title fight and lost via submission. The rematch, planned for October 2023, did not take place due to the Brazilian’s injury; he was replaced by the Australian Alexander Volkanovski, who also lost to the Russian champion ahead of schedule.
In total, Makhachev had 26 fights in his career, in which he won 25 victories, suffering only one defeat. The Russian tops the UFC rankings regardless of weight categories.
