Two-time Olympic champion in saber fencing Sofya Velikaya assessed payments from the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) after being denied access to the 2024 Games. Her words are quoted by TASS.

“This is a pleasant event for us before the New Year. They remember us and care about us. I am sure that the ROC has done a great job in compiling the lists of athletes who will be awarded these awards,” she said. Representative of CSKA Velikaya expressed hope that all Olympians who continue their careers despite the suspension will receive payments.

On December 26, ROC General Director Vladimir Sengleyev announced that 127 participants of previous Olympics had already received financial support. “500 thousand rubles will be paid for gold medalists, 350 thousand rubles for silver medalists and 250 thousand rubles for bronze medalists. 150 thousand rubles will be paid to the participants of the Olympic Games,” the head of the ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov noted earlier.

On December 8, the International Olympic Committee announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympics. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine and have connections with the Armed Forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not get to Paris. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
