FIFA threatens to ban Brazil from tournaments if CBF holds elections for head
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has threatened to suspend Brazil from tournaments if it interferes in the election of the president of the country’s football confederation (CBF). Associated Press reports.
According to the source, the CBF could be removed if the organization holds elections to replace Ednaldo Rodriguez as head. It is noted that teams of CBF representatives and clubs will not be able to participate in international tournaments.
On December 7, a Rio de Janeiro court suspended Rodriguez due to irregularities during the organization’s 2022 presidential elections. According to FIFA’s statutes, government bodies cannot interfere in the affairs of national federations. The Federation Commission will conduct an investigation into the case, which will end on January 8.
The Brazilian national team has won the World Cup five times. The team also has nine victories in the America’s Cup.
