Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton received a knight’s title for services to motorsport. Reported by the Daily Mail.
Hamilton was included in the traditional New Year’s list of awards in 2020. On December 15, 2021, the 36-year-old racer was knighted by Prince Charles. The pilot’s parents were also present at the ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Hamilton became the fourth pilot in Formula 1 history to be awarded a knighthood. Prior to that, Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jack Brabham received it.
On December 12, Hamilton missed out on the Formula 1 championship, losing in the final race of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. Mercedes management expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the race and sent two protests to the International Motorsport Federation, which were rejected.
