Tatyana Navka supported the performance of the Russians at the Olympic Games 2024 in a neutral status
Olympic champion in ice dancing Tatyana Navka revealed her neutral attitude towards the performance of Russian athletes at the 2024 Games in Paris. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The former figure skater supported her compatriots who will be able to take part in the competition. “The Russian athlete who will stand on the podium during the Olympics is the flag and anthem of our Motherland,” Navka noted.
She added that she sees nothing wrong with a neutral status as long as the athlete is not forced to speak out or do something against his country. “We already went to the Olympic Games without a flag and an anthem. What has changed from this? — the ex-athlete asked.
Earlier, the head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Irina Viner, announced the refusal of representatives of the country’s national team to perform at international tournaments without a flag and anthem. She also called the possible performance of Russian athletes at the 2024 Games in a neutral status a disgrace.
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
