Olympic champion Dyachenko said that one must go to the 2024 Games under any flag
Olympic fencing champion Ekaterina Dyachenko assessed the advisability of Russians performing at the 2024 Games in Paris in a neutral status. Her words are quoted by TASS.
“As an athlete, I believe that you should go to the Olympics under any flag, because the enormous work that the athletes have done should not go to waste – the guys should get their chance,” Dyachenko said. The Russian noted that she will doubly support her compatriots who will go to the Olympics in France.
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
