UEFA head Čeferin said he would not stop the organizers of the Super League
The head of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Aleksander Čeferin, reacted to the decision of the European Court on the legitimacy of the creation of the Super League. His words are quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano on his social network account X (formerly Twitter).
The functionary said that he would not stop the organizers of the tournament and wanted it to start as soon as possible. He also recalled that only two teams have not announced their withdrawal from the Super League – Real and Barcelona. “Football is not for sale,” added Čeferin.
On December 21, the European Court declared the actions of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA against the creation of the Super League illegal. The European Court of Justice said that FIFA and UEFA do not have a monopoly on club competitions in Europe.
The creation of the Super League became known in April 2021. 12 top European clubs were to take part in the new competition. A few days later the project was frozen due to the blocking of FIFA and UEFA.
