Tikhonov supported Wiener’s position on the inadmissibility of participation in the Games on the terms of the IOC
Four-time Olympic champion in biathlon Alexander Tikhonov assessed the conditions put forward by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the participation of Russians in the 2024 Games. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Tikhonov supported the position of the President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Irina Viner, about the inadmissibility of participation in the Olympics under these conditions. “If you have a desire, change your citizenship and travel at your own expense. The state spends a lot of money on us,” he said.
Earlier, Wiener called the possible performance of Russian athletes at the 2024 Games in a neutral status a disgrace. “The flag and anthem of Russia belong to the country, we are not refugees or homeless people. To perform without a flag and homeland, why perform at all?” – she noted.
On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
