Wiener again criticized the neutral status for Russians at the 2024 Olympics

Wiener on the neutral status of Russians at the 2024 Olympics: we are not homeless or refugees

President of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation Irina Viner again critically assessed the neutral status for Russians at the 2024 Olympic Games. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti with reference to the Soloviev Live channel.

“The flag and anthem of Russia belong to the country, we are not refugees or homeless people. How can Russia play on a refugee team? To perform without a flag and homeland, then why perform at all? Are we supposed to crawl on our knees with our hands raised?” — said Wiener. She noted that Russian athletes will receive titles, cars and prize money even without the Olympics.

Earlier, Wiener announced the refusal of representatives of the country’s gymnastics team to perform at international tournaments without the flag and anthem. She also called the possible performance of Russian athletes at the 2024 Games in a neutral status a disgrace.

On December 8, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes.

On December 1, the General Assembly of the European Gymnastics Union banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in tournaments. Athletes will not be able to take part in European competitions from January 1, 2024, contrary to the decision of the International Gymnastics Federation.
