Semak said that Russian players need to go to Europe to develop their careers
The head coach of St. Petersburg Zenit Sergei Semak revealed his attitude towards the transfer of Russian football players to European clubs. He spoke out on MGIMO’s Let’s Talk YouTube channel.
In his opinion, young Russians do not need to leave for the sake of simply leaving. “Leaving so that your career can take off – of course, why not? It’s possible. First, you must win a place in the starting lineup, become a leader here, so that you have no competition here,” Semak said.
He added that there is also a point in transferring to Europe for adult Russian football players who want to try their hand at the new championship. As an example, he cited French Le Havre midfielder Daler Kuzyaev and Greek PAOK midfielder Magomed Ozdoev.
On September 12, the head coach of Rostov and the Russian national team, Valery Karpin, called on Russian players to leave for European clubs. He noted that he advised leaving the Russian Premier League (RPL) many times. The coach added that he feels the difference between the level of the national team players who play in Europe and those who remain at home.
