Fedor Emelianenko resigned from the position of honorary president of the Russian MMA Union
Former mixed style (MMA) fighter Fedor Emelianenko resigned from his position in the Russian MMA Union. TASS reports this.
The ex-athlete did not want to become the honorary president of the organization. Earlier on December 15, Viktor Drozdov was unanimously elected head of the Russian MMA Union.
Fedor Emelianenko headed the Union from 2012 to 2018. He then served as honorary president and chairman of the organization’s supervisory board and again headed the union, leaving his post in August 2023.
On February 5, Fedor Emelianenko lost to Ryan Bader by knockout in the first round. The fight, which headed the Bellator 290 tournament and became the farewell for the Russian, took place in the heavyweight division. At stake was the title of the organization’s champion, which was owned by the American.
Emelianenko is known for his performances in Pride, Strikeforce, M-1 Challenge and Bellator. In October 2021, he headed the first tournament in Russia in the history of the American organization. Emelianenko fought 48 fights according to the rules of mixed martial arts. He won 40 fights and lost 7 times. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
