We know the details of Paulo Sousa’s meeting with Kulesza. The scenario of the conversation could have been different

Why did you have to wait so long for the meeting? that’s why both the president of the Polish Football Association and Paulo Sousa took the time to be able to calmly and objectively analyze these events.

Sousa meets Kulesza. “Operation: Russia” has started

On Tuesday, for the first time since the loss with Hungary, he registered in Poland. The selector came for just one day, mainly for an arranged morning interview with Cezary Kulesza.

It was also attended by the Secretary General Łukasz Wachowski, the director and spokesman of the Polish Football Association Jakub Kwiatkowski, as well as the director of the management office, Piotr Szefer. It lasted for an hour and a half. Two topics dominated – the analysis of the match against Hungary, as well as the March play-offs for the World Cup in Qatar.

The meeting was held in a good atmosphere. It was decided to close the elimination case and focus on the play-offs. It is possible that it would not be so nice if, after losing the seed, the Poles were not so lucky in drawing the play-off ladders. Sousa is even supposed to draw up a “wish list” and present to the union in order to be able to prepare the squad as best as possible for the March World Cup matches.

“The interview with coach Paulo Sousa is behind me. We summed up the group stage of the qualifying round and closed this stage. Now we only think about the play-offs, because the goal is clear for everyone. As PZPN we will support the team in all possible matters. We are starting Operation Russia!” – he wrote on Twitter.

Sousa is due to return to Portugal on Tuesday, so he will not be in any of the upcoming matches. This is going to change from the new year. In January, the selector will meet with Polish coaches, and in February he will come back to watch several potential players from the stands.

Sousa is fighting for a job in play-offs. He will lead the team at the World Cup when he is promoted

There is no doubt that Paulo Sousa will be fighting to keep his job in play-offs for the World Cup. The situation is binary. If the Poles fail to defeat Russia and then Sweden or the Czechs, Sousa’s deal will expire and will almost certainly not be extended.

In the event of a promotion, the contract of the manager and his staff will automatically be extended until the end of 2022, and this would mean that Paulo Sousa would also lead the White and Reds at the World Cup. , there is no topic of changing the coach during promotion to the world championship. This – according to the authorities – is only sowing unnecessary confusion around the staff.

Cezary Kulesza realizes that if the contract was terminated, he would have to pay Sousa and his associates multi-million compensation. In addition, after the Portuguese has achieved his goal – promotion to the World Cup – saying goodbye to him would be an image risk, in which there would be a lot to lose and not much to gain.

The World Cup play-offs in Qatar will take place in March. On March 24, the Poles will play against Russia in Moscow, and in the event of a win on March 29, they will host the winner of the Sweden-Czech Republic match.
