President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov answered a question about the performance of participants in the 2024 Olympics at the Friendship Games. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
Pozdnyakov said that participants in the Paris Olympics cannot be associated with national organizations, which will also host the Friendship Games. “From my point of view, an athlete who will take part in the Olympic Games absolutely cannot participate in the Friendship Games. Otherwise, his result at the Olympics may be annulled,” he explained.
Earlier, Pozdnyakov criticized the conditions for the admission of domestic athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games. “By choosing neutralization, the athlete becomes a hostage to other people’s interests,” he said and added that participants in the Games in Paris will not receive financial support.
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris. Athletes will be able to take part in the tournament only in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine and have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not get to Paris. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
